“PAWSITIVE” CONSTRUCTION NEWS!

January 2011

Cape Ann Animal Aid‘s (CAAA) new shelter has a new name …

The Christopher Cutler Rich Animal Shelter

CAAA is respectfully privileged to announce that the new shelter at 4 Paws Lane will be named in memory of Christopher Cutler Rich. Christopher, whose great love for and care of animals far exceeded his life in years, will be honored by all who pass through our doors and support our efforts to save animals.

Phase II of construction of the Christopher Cutler Rich Animal Shelter is currently underway. The building foundation has been completed and the second challenge grant of $300,000 awarded by Linzee Coolidge of the Dusky Foundation has been matched. CAAA has raised more than $1.9 million of its $2.0 million construction goal and is raising additional funds for endowment. Mother Nature’s recent storms have slowed us but not deterred us; and we are bursting with excitement anticipating opening our doors.

If you would like more information on CAAA’s Capital Campaign to build the Christopher Cutler Rich Animal Shelter please call Campaign Co-Chairs Cynthia Sweet at (617) 304-9369; or Cindy Dunn at (978) 764-8850; or visit our website at www.CapeAnnAnimalAid.com.

November 2010: Construction Update!

"PAWSITIVE" CONTRUCTION NEWS

Cape Ann Animal Aid (CAAA) moved another step closer in opening a new state-of-the-art animal shelter when it completed Phase I of construction in early November. In celebration, CAAA hosted a kickoff ceremony on November 13th to officially mark the start of Phase II of construction, which was the designation of Paws Lane by the City of Gloucester and the beginning of construction of the shelter.  The CAAA Board of Directors and staff, Dusky Foundation Trustee Linzee Coolidge, Mayor Carolyn Kirk, City Councilors Jackie Hardy, Joe Ciolino, Greg Verga, Sefatia Romeo-Theken, as well as, Representative Ann Margaret Ferrante and Brad Hill were among those in attendance.

Phase I of construction included securing all use and site permits for the development of the 800-foot road complete with all utilities and a storm water management system; and prepping the site for the foundation and the new building.  The 800-foot road is now officially named Paws Lane and the site is ready.

Phase II of construction is now underway and includes laying the foundation and constructing the new shelter by the end of December, weather permitting. During the remainder of the winter, the interior of the new shelter will be constructed and should be ready for a grand opening in the spring.  The new shelter will have a more friendly space where prospective adopters and adoptees can meet and interact and where animals can have some spaces to call their own. The new shelter will encompass exceptional air purification and plumbing systems, and specialized animal housing.
Buoyed by two $300,000 matching grants from the Dusky Foundation, CAAA is nearing its construction goal.
CAAA still needs about $150,000 more in donations to complete construction so that the new shelter can open in the spring. Additionally, we are seeking funds or in-kind services for the landscaping and installation of fence and gifts to our endowment.  If you would like more information on Cape Ann Animal Aid’s Capital Campaign, please visit our website at www.CapeAnnAnimalAid.com or call Sunniva Buck at (978) 283-6055 or Cindy Dunn at (978) 764-8850. Gifts of cash, stock, property, testamentary and multiyear pledges of any size are needed and appreciated.
