CAPE ANN ANIMAL AID RECEIVES SIGNIFICANT DONATION TOWARDS THE CONSTRUCTION OF NEW SHELTER

GLOUCESTER, MA, July 27, 2009The Cape Ann Animal Aid Capital Campaign has received an exciting fundraising boost in the form of an anonymous $100,000 donation toward the construction of a new state-of-the-art facility off Essex Avenue in West Gloucester.

According to campaign co-chair, Cindy Dunn, this anonymous $100,000 gift comes at a pivotal time in the campaign effort. “In this economy we have been working extra hard to get the message out that a new shelter is a much needed resource for homeless animals in our community. “

The donation will also be matched dollar for dollar thanks to a $300,000 matching challenge grant put forth by the Dusky Foundation. Once matched, the anonymous gift will put the Animal Aid just over half way to their $2 million dollar fundraising goal.

Cape Ann Animal Aid launched is campaign for a new shelter after more than 35 years at its current 1,200-square-foot facility on Main St. in Gloucester. This new facility will include exceptional air purification, sanitation, and plumbing systems, specialized animal housing, an elderly cat sanctuary, visiting rooms, indoor and outdoor play areas and a community education room.

Despite the current facility’s limitations and challenges, the Animal Aid still places over 700 dogs and cats into loving homes each year.

Shelter Manager, Sunniva Buck credits the staff and volunteers at the shelter for their success. “We do the best with what we have and we’re all looking forward to the new facility. It will allow us to significantly increase the number of animals served in a quality living environment as well as allow for more community outreach programs and services” says Buck.

The Animal Aid is making progress at their new site. Road and underground storm water and sewer infrastructure is nearing completion but they are hoping that more donations of all sizes, including outright gifts and pledges will be received to allow for the completion of the construction in 2010.

LAD Construction of Manchester by the Sea has cleared more than 800 feet of road. As the photos show, LAD is making excellent progress in digging and will install the infrastructure for water and sewer and the storm-water management system.  Large boulders removed from the road will be ground up and used to cover the entry road for construction vehicles. This phase of our project is on schedule to be completed this spring.

DECEMBER 2008: Pawsitive News on Our Planned New Digs!

December, 2008--Cape Ann Animal Aid is very excited to report that we have hired LAD Construction of Manchester by the Sea to perform Phase I of our building project, which includes all of the site work. LAD is well known in our community and is projected to complete Phase I in April 2009.

Cape Ann Animal Aid’s Capital Campaign is equally thrilled to let you know that we topped the $600,000 mark in funds raised.

Linzee Coolidge, devoted CAAA friend and Trustee of the Dusky Foundation, is matching all contributions to the building fund up to $300,000!  To date we have matched $127,250 of the grant and are working tirelessly to meet, and hopefully exceed, our year end goal of raising $100,000 more in matching funds.

Homeless animals need the very best chance we can give them to find new, permanent homes. And a new state of-the-art shelter will help us put their best paws forward!

Please consider purchasing a brick for, or making a building fund gift dedicated to, a loved one for the Holiday Season. For more information or questions contact Rebecca Baylies, Public Relations Manager at 978-283-6055 or Cindy Dunn, Campaign Co-Chair at 978-764-8850.

Cape Ann Animal Aid Receives $300,000 Challenge Grant Towards the Construction of New Animal Shelter

GLOUCESTER, MA, October 25, 2007— Linzee Coolidge, Trustee of the Dusky Foundation , announced a $300,000 'challenge' to all animal supporters—the Foundation will match contributions made toward the Cape Ann Animal Aid Building Fund dollar for dollar up to $300,000.

The Cape Ann Animal Aid officially launched its Building Fund Capital Campaign, "We Are Their Shelter, You Are Their Future" in 2006 to construct a new state of the art animal shelter in West Gloucester.

With support from initial donations from the community, the Dusky Foundation, private parties, and an in-kind contribution from Mattuchio Construction, the CAAA broke ground for Phase One of the project, including the clearing of the road and laying of utilities for the new shelter, on December 9, 2006.

Although many animal lovers immediately contributed to the building fund after the groundbreaking ceremony only a quarter of the funds necessary to build the 1.9 million dollar state-of-the-art shelter have since been raised.

"I think this challenge grant will be a major jump-start for our continued fundraising efforts. This is a great opportunity for our community to rise to the occasion and help us finish this project", says CAAA President, Tom Farina.

The new shelter will be a 7,500-square-foot, state-of-the-art facility on 7.5 acres on Essex Avenue in West Gloucester. A substantial amount of the property is woods and will be preserved in its natural state. Among other things the new facility will encompass are exceptional air purification and plumbing systems, specialized animal housing, an elderly cat sanctuary, visiting rooms, indoor and outdoor play areas and a community education room.

The CAAA has outgrown its current 1,200-square-foot facility on Main St . in Gloucester where according to CAAA Shelter Manager, Sunniva Buck, and "the cat play area serves as the reception room, animal intake area, records department, evaluation room and storage area as well as the administrative offices."

Potential adopters currently meet and interact with prospective new four-legged family members in the shelter's cramped reception area, in the outdoor dog runs, or in a nearby parking lot. "The new shelter will have a more friendly space where prospective adopters and adoptees can meet and interact and where animals can have some spaces to call their own", says Buck.

Despite the building's limitations and challenges, the CAAA still places approximately 700 dogs and cats into loving new homes each year. "We have excellent staff members and volunteers at the CAAA. The new shelter facility will allow CAAA to significantly increase the number of animals served as well as allow for more community outreach programs and services" says Buck.

"As our campaign slogan reads: 'We are their shelter, you are their future,'" says Farina, "and we are so grateful to the Dusky Foundation for this challenge grant and look forward to receiving support from our local community and beyond as they paint the future for all of the animals we will continue to place into loving homes."

Can you rise to the challenge and contribute to the future of the Cape Ann Animal Aid?
