Happy tails from animals in their new homes!
We love hearing how our animals are doing in their new homes with their forever families. Here are some of the more recent updates we've received. Please note that additional happy tails are on display at the shelter.
If you have a happy "tail" to share about an animal that came from the Cape Ann Animal Aid,
please e-mail your story and a digital photo (if possible) to CapeAnnAnimalAid@yahoo.com.
Stories and photos can also be mailed to the CAAA at 260 Main St., Gloucester, MA, 01930.

Hi Cape Ann,
We wanted you all to know that Cotton (formerly Aiden) is doing really well. He gets along so well with Daisy (our 2 year old lab) and they play constantly. We are working on the leash and he does his duty on the back porch because he doesn't like stairs. He has such a personality and has become such a big part of our family-- I can't imagine our home without him! Thanks to all of you.

An Update on Lila!
"Lila goes to doggie day care at "Paws at Play" and she loves it. She gets all tuckered out and comes home and takes a nap. Every morning she begs to go to doggie daycare.
She is the sweetest dog – just look at that face – it doesn't lie. When you look into those beautiful brown eyes they just steal your heart.
She still likes to chew but she does not do it as much when you keep her busy." |

Hello CAAA
Thank you so much for letting me have Nyla (Noel) in my life. She is the most lovable puppy I have ever met. Kisses and snuggling is her favorite thing to do when she's not chasing after me when I have my slippers on. She's always by my side so I think I might have to upgrade to a bigger bed just for her! We are partners in crime.
Ropes, rawhide, squeekys and treats--she's not picky at all! It didn't take her long at all to get comfortable here. Madison (my sisters Shih Tzu) is her best friend since the first night I had her. It didn't take her long to show her who the boss was around our home.
Again thanks so much,
Sarah and Nyla |

Hi Cape Ann,
Peetie (formerly chevy) is doing great! You would never know he was the skittish little pup we adopted. He loves to take walks around the lake and is doing great on his leash. He has become very playful, but only between naps. By far his favorite pass time is digging in the sand by the lake. Anyway thanks for everything and here are the pics we promised.

Dear CAAA,
We adopted Smokey back in January and we wanted to let you know how he's doing! He adjusted just fine to living with us, and he made himself comfortable on the couch not 10 minutes after we got home that Sunday afternoon! He's a very happy cat, just as he was when we first met him at the shelter, and he loves curling up on our bed in the sunshine, and having his belly rubbed any time! His only drawback is probably that he doesn't seem to be in favor of getting any work done! He would much rather lay on my laptop or on my school books while I'm trying to do homework! He's a sweetie, though!
Thank you so much for all you do at Cape Ann Animal Aid, it means the world to be able to save even just one pet from what could have been a very sad ending. Surely Smokey, being so friendly, never would have gone too long without a forever home, but we're really glad he was able to come to ours and spend his days playing with us, and sleeping in our laps!
Sincerely,
Leanne & Adam Burnett
PS - We often joke that we got the healthy kitty - he doesn't really like treats! It's just cat food for him, as we're guessing he's trying to maintain that trim, muscular build! :) |

Hello,
I wanted to give you an update on Loki (formerly known
as Bosley). The day I brought him home... I knew I
had a unique special friend. He is my little buddy
following me from room to room, snuggling and playing,
being his sweet self. He enjoys watching television
(it's true!), and most importantly his favorite thing
is to cuddle and give kisses. He loves people and animals and especially children.
Every time I take him outside, I get approached by
someone. They always ask where I got him and I have
been told so many times how lucky I was to find such a
great dog.
I want to thank you for doing what you do. You brought
me so much happiness by taking in this sweet little
dog and allowing me to adopt him. I have encouraged
everyone to check out your web site... consider
adoption ... and donate to help save other animals in
need.
Thanks again for bringing me my angel... my family :)

Hello Everyone!
I just wanted to give you all a quick update on Ravi . . . My husband Damien and I decided to name him after my grandfather (Richard). So Ravi's new name is Dickums. It sounds a little funny to some, but it's my Grandpa's nickname and he's so proud that the name will be kept in the family!
Since Dickums arrived at our house last Friday, he has been a real treat! He has made himself at home and his hound blood is really started to show . . . he has made sure to inspect every inch of our house and yard. He's doing great with sleeping in his crate. We keep the crate in our bedroom because it does help to calm him down. He's also doing really well with house training; he's only had a couple of accidents, and the reward system that we have in place for when he goes outside has been working (he hates the cold, and no matter how much praise he gets, the real reward for him is getting to go back into the warm house!). He's a very active little puppy and really loves to chew. His favorite chew toy is a whicker basket in our living room, but he likes his other rope toys and bones too. Oh, and his catnip cat toy (he picked that one out himself).
Damien and I are so happy with our first adoption experience; having Dickums in our home has been so rewarding already. Everyone we know loves to hear the stories about him and see pictures. I tell everyone that making the trip up to Gloucester was definitely worth it! I would recommend your shelter to anyone. You do great work and I could really see how much you care for all of your animals.
Thanks for everything!
Tess, Damien, and Dickums Fahy |

Hi Cape Ann,
I’m very pleased to tell you that Bella whose name was previously "Marimar" is doing fantastic! She’s Chihuahua/ Terrier mix and such a sweetheart. She loves loves loves people, anyone can come up to her and pet her and she will show them so much love. She’s very protective of me, any noise she hears that she doesn’t quite understand she barks to warn me. She's very playful and loves to be chased for the ball. She's a such a beauty, her coat is getting longer and her color is changing, she's lost 3 of her back teeth and is up to date on her vaccines. She loves her daddy's Lab "Puppa" and is usually cuddling next to her to fall asleep. She's weighing in at 10 lbs and is very active. She's completely housetrained and knows the following tricks: come, sit, stay, down, up, off, kisses, high five, speak and gets down on her front paws when she needs to go out!! I've attached pictures and a you tube link to a video of her called 'Puerto rico dog'

Her best friend - after me - is Loki, a ten month golden retriever who lives

Hello,
Three years ago Dec 29 I adopted "Sandra" the shyest sato on earth
from you folks. This is just to let you know she is thriving and
happy. My other dog, two cats and I love her more than I know how to
say.
She has made great progress with her shy and timid nature although
we did have to work with her this past year to overcome some fear
aggression that she had developed with dogs she didn't know. I'm glad to say after some months of work
she has put that behavior behind her and is playing with all kinds of
dogs she would never play with before.
If her progress continues who
knows - maybe we can attend a Sato Reunion this coming year...To celebrate her anniversary I sent an email out to everyone who
knows her with a link to your web site asking them to donate to your
building fund. I know at least some have responded.
Peace and Happy New Year,
Mark |

Hi!
I adopted my dog, Sandi from the Cape Ann Animal Shelter. They told me that she was rescued by Save a Sato. I wanted to send along a few pictures of her that I took yesterday. She is enjoying life and loves the snow! Her name, when I adopted her, was Carmencita. Thanks so much for taking such good care of her.
Fondly,

Dear CAAA,
Kipling (formerly Chuchi) asked me to let you know that she is doing very well down in Boston. She absolutely loves her new home and we love her completely. She loves that I am a dog walker and takes her job as my side-kick very seriously. She is getting a lot of exercise, spending time with all sorts of other dogs and becoming more and more confident everyday.
Hope all is well in Gloucester. And thank you again for taking such good care of Kips before we got to bring her home.
Best,
Hathaway, James and Kips |

To the Staff of Cape Ann Animal Aid ,
On September 22, 2007, I adopted a 2 year old, 9 lb, Beagle-Chihuahua, mix named "Bejuco" from you through the Save a Sato program in Puerto Rico. I changed his name to Luke which he adjusted to very well. Luke is very loving, and a great companion who makes me laugh on a daily basis. He is very appreciative of his many toys and the walks we take every evening. He has 3 beds to accommodate my 3 floor townhouse, so he always has a place to rest. Luke loves attention. He loves when people come over to visit. Luke loves, loves, loves to give kisses. He is definitely a lap dog.
He had his first vet appointment with his new veterinarian in Salisbury, MA (his new home town) and got his dog license. The veterinarian recommended tooth brushing for him with chicken toothpaste and Luke has his own blue tooth brush with yellow ducks on it. He brushes his teeth every Sunday and LOVES it. He gets along very well with my sisters 11 lb mini pincher, Taz. They hit it off instantly. He visits Taz once a week and they run around the back yard together. He is very loyal and dedicated to me. He watches wherever I go throughout the house and checks on me often. He is always very excited to see me. Luke is a great dog and I am so glad my sister found him on your web site. I have attached some pictures of Luke.
Thank you !!!

Dear CAAA,
We adopted "Alex" and have renamed him Poncho Sancho "the dog we love so much, we named him twice". Poncho is a wonderful pup and definitely has some pointer in him. He loves to sleep in front of the fireplace at night. We recently lost our dog Cally to cancer and were happy to find such a wonderful puppy to bring into our family. Poncho will be loved more than you could ever know. My son Bennet and daughter Perry are enjoying their first puppy experience. Once he is house trained, he will be coming to work with me every day where he will be loved by his second family - some with two legs and some with four.
Yours Truly,
Maureen Wilson |

Dear CAAA,
Just wanted you to know that "GRIZ" who is now known as SAM is doing very well. He loves going to school each day where he has LOTS of friends to play with and take for walks and a best puppy-friend Dudley who also comes to school daily. They take turns chasing and being chased and LOVE to share their favorite chewies. Sam is already 50 pounds and a great lovable companion. We're still working out who is taking whom for a walk and what is an acceptable chew toy, but he is making good progress. Thanks so much for bringing us together!

Good Morning Everyone,
I am just dropping a line to let you all know that Shakespeare is doing Great. He has completed 5 out of the 6 obedience training classes and is interacting with all the other dogs in the class without a problem. He plays with them and shows no aggression to even the biggest dog. Shakespeare knows how to sit, lay down, come, paw, and we are working on roll over. In the beginning he went to the bathroom a few times in the house. Since then we have only had 2 accidents. He also has visited quite a few places taking road trips in the car is his favorite. He went to Maine this summer and played with a young golden lab and he was very good with her and also gets along with my mothers dogs.. I am glad we found a great dog and will send you some pictures when christmas comes around. The pictures attached are him doing his ROCKY Impression wearing a Gray Dog Hoodie.
Kind Regards,
Dan & Tiffany |

Hi there!
We adopted Heidi in early May. Heidi is now known as Harper, though she has many nicknames.
Harper is has made great strides since we first brought her home. After a rough start at home with big sister Riley (a 6 year old yellow lab), she has settled into her place quite nicely. As you probably know, Harper was a Georgia Rescue that was found living on a golf course, and it was not known whether she had lived in a house before. Knowing this, and not knowing how she would respond, we decided it would be best to crate her. Harper would spend her days in the crate and we would go home during lunch to take her out for a walk, etc.
Harper loves to lie in sunspots in the dining room, and at night, she curls up on 'her cushion' on the couch. She will often slink off, and be found in the bedroom curled up in a ball at the foot of the bed if she thinks it's bedtime, only to amble back downstairs a couple of hours later when she wakes up and realizes she is alone.
If there is one thing Harper does enjoy, is going to the dog park, and in Portland, we are fortunate to have a couple of options, along with a couple of dog friendly beaches. Harper loves going to the park where she can run, chase, wrestle, and sniff to her hearts content. That about wraps things up!
Best Regards,
Greg Leclair |

Hi,
I adopted Lucy, a rat terrier puppy, two months ago and wanted to let you know that she’s doing really well. She’s been getting progressively better at house breaking each week and is nearly all done with accidents in the house. She and my cat are brother and sister and spend a lot of time chasing each other around. She’s been incredibly good with other dogs and regularly plays with others at the park and doggie daycare – especially her best friend, a male min pin mix.
Best,
Nelson Ra |

Dear CAAA,
Here is Goldie (re-christened Dora) exploring her new home. I think she's perfect. Thanks for all your help in uniting us. (Great, accurate description of
Dora from one of your associates: "She plays hard, she crashes hard.")
What a dog!

Dear CAAA,
We are so happy to share a couple of pictures of Stormy with you. He is QUITE the celebrity for the camera! You'll be pleased to know that he has already adjusted beautifully. He loves watching the birds from the window seat, laying in the middle of the couch, and playing with some new toys. He is also such a lover boy... purring like crazy and coming to us for affection a lot!
Thank you, thank you for letting us adopt him! We will keep you informed of his progress and bring you a sheet for your "Happy Tails" board when we make our next donation.
Please give our best to the whole staff.
Our Best,
Marti, Jon, Elizabeth, and Stormy |

Hi,
We adopted CoCo (she was known as Sheri) on January 13, 2007 when she was 13 weeks old and just wanted to send a recent photo. CoCo Cheri is now over 40 pounds and a bundle of energy. She loves playing with other dogs and taking walks in the park behind our house. She has been such a delight and we couldn't be happier that she is part of our family.
Hope all is well,

Hello,
We adopted (Jingle) Rascal in January 2007, and he is a great part of our family now. He is an absolute joy to have around. We never know from day to day what new surprises are ahead. When we first met Rascal he just sat in our arms and purred. We took him home and he wasn't shy, he ran from one end of the house to the other and oh yeah up the walls. I thought oh no what have we gotten into. But since that day we couldn't be happier. His latest thing is water, I've never had a cat that loved playing in the water so much. Any faucet he can find that's on he's there. Attached is a picture of him playing in the bathroom sink is 2nd favorite place to be, his first is the bathtub.
Thanks so much,
Lisa Lake |
