Meet Darby, a boxer/shepherd mixed breed puppy, who arrived at our shelter with premature ventricular contractions (an irregular heart beat). At her first veterinary exam an irregular heart beat was discovered. the first step in helping Darby was an initial EKG to see just how her heart was sending and responding to the electrical impulses that control heart movement. Based on the results of her EKG she was started on medication to try and normalize her heartbeat. Darby has had some medication changes and 2 additional EKG's to determine whether the medicine's are doing the right job or not. Darby needs an echo-cardiagram to give her doctors additional information about the function and structure of her heart muscle in addition to another EKG to recheck how her heart is responding electrically (firing more normally) to her most recent medications. Darby's medical follow-up for her heart condition so far totals $308 and her upcoming echocardiagram and EKG will cost an additional $257.
