Open your heart to an overlooked pet!
Join Cape Ann Animal Aid on every 3rd Thursday of the month for an Overlooked Pets Adoption Day!

We take this opportunity to highlight some of the animals that have been in our shelter for longer than the average stay and reduce their adoption fee for the day--on some occasions the adoption fee is even waived for specific animals!

Sometimes there is no real explanation for why the animal has gone overlooked; other times, the animals may have what some may consider “imperfections” such as medical or physical challenges or have less popular attributes like cats or dogs with black fur, are older in age, or need additional behavioral training.

Photos and adoption fees for the select overlooked pets will be posted on this page prior to the 3rd Thursday of every month (usually on the 3rd Monday of every month).

* Please note that adoptions will be completed on a first come, first serve basis and all regular adoption requirements apply.

Overlooked Pets for May 16, 2013
Amelia

Overlooked Pets Adoption Day: Adoption Fee Waived! (Regular adoption fee : $50.00)

Age: 12 years

About: Pleased to meet you. My name is Amelia and I am an affectionate and young at heart senior feline. I recently had a run of bad hair days (ladies I am sure some of you can empathize) and the end result was that the kind folks at the veterinary office shaved me all down so I could be comfortable and start anew. I get along well with other cats and can even tolerate and ignore some of the grumpier folks I have bumped in to here, I won't mention any names but not everyone is as sweet as me! My thyroid gives me a bit of trouble so the veterinarians have me tacking medicine daily and say I need to have blood work every once in a while to monitor it. The doctor also said I have a heart murmur (could be from the thyroid) and some cataracts which he thinks is just normal aging process, ain't it fun to get older! If you don't mind helping me keep in good health then I won't mind helping you keep yourself in good health too. I am what the folks here consider a special needs adoption. I figure that must mean more folks are going to be excited to come in and audition for the starring role in my life! So hurry in and try out today, you might just get to go home with me under your arm.

Mitty

Overlooked Pets Adoption Day: Adoption Fee Waived! (Regular adoption fee : $50.00)

Age: 14 years

About: One look at my aquamarine eyes and you will be smitten! My name is Mitty and I am a sweet and affectionate older lady. I adore human company and don't mind the companionship of another calm kitty or two. I am a talkative lady who really wants to share your attention and day. I don't much care for being alone, I'd much rather be snuggled up on your lap. I am a special needs adoption because I have a problem with my sinuses and tend to have chronic upper respiratory symptoms. In my past home it was something I always struggled with but my family didn't mind helping me along. Sadly my family had some life changes and was unable to keep me so I am now looking for another understanding soul. The veterinarians and folks here have treated me with a couple of different antibiotics and did a nasal flush (think kitty netty pot) and that really helped but odds are I will need extra veterinary care to address my sinus issues as they come and I might need flushes done every once in a while to help keep my nose clear and my breathing easier. I really am a lady worth getting to know so stop in and visit, you might just find yourself no longer living alone! If you can't take me home why not visit anyway and while you are here you can make a donation to help cover the extra veterinary care me and some of my friends need :)
